Food as product. Food as culture.
I’m Christopher Alga, a commercial photographer based in Costa Rica. I photograph food, beverages and culinary stories for restaurants, hospitality businesses, food brands, agencies and publications.
The approach changes with the brief. A product image may need precise lighting and control. A restaurant story may be stronger when it includes the kitchen, ingredients, people and atmosphere around the plate. My documentary background lets me combine both when a project needs polished commercial imagery with a sense of place.

05 PRODUCTION IN COSTA RICA
From the brief to the table.
Before a shoot, the useful questions are practical: what is being photographed, where the images will appear, how many dishes or products are involved, whether people or process need to be included, and what visual references define the project.
For clients producing from outside Costa Rica, I can also support location research, bilingual coordination and local production planning when the assignment requires it.

Planning a food shoot.
What kinds of food photography do you produce?
Assignments can include restaurant and hospitality imagery, plated dishes, beverages, product photography, recipes, process photographs and lifestyle culinary stories.
Do you work with agencies and international clients?
Yes. I can work from a remote creative brief or collaborate with an agency, art director, brand or production team on location in Costa Rica.
Can a shoot include people and the story behind the food?
Yes. For editorial, hospitality and brand stories, photographing chefs, producers, ingredients, preparation and the surrounding environment can give the final image set more context.
Where in Costa Rica do you work?
I’m based in Costa Rica and work nationwide. Production planning depends on the location, access, subjects and requirements of the brief.
