Approach
MY PHOTOGRAPHY IS DEFINED BY A DOCUMENTARY LENS.
I am interested in what happens when people stop performing for the camera.
My approach grew from observing street life and developed through documentary photography, editorial assignments and years of working with people in their own environments. I look for photographs that carry context: a person and the place they inhabit, a landscape and the people who depend on it, or a quiet detail that explains something larger.
Whether I am photographing a commercial campaign, an editorial portrait or a long-form documentary story, that way of seeing remains the same.

REGIONAL EXPERTISE & PRODUCTION SUPPORT
Costa Rica is home, not simply a destination I travel to for assignments.
Working throughout the country has taught me how landscape, weather, access, culture and distance shape a production. For international publications, agencies and brands, I provide photography alongside local support including location research, scouting, access, bilingual coordination and production planning.
Assignments can be produced throughout Costa Rica, from San José and the Central Valley to Guanacaste, the Caribbean, rainforest, mountains and remote Pacific communities.
About
CHRISTOPHER ALGA
I am a Costa Rica-based documentary and editorial photographer with more than 18 years of professional experience.
My work explores people, culture, environment and the connections between them. I hold a degree in photography and continued my documentary education through the Magnum Photos and UAL Intensive Documentary Photography Course in London and the VII Photo Masterclass in Arles, France.
My photographs have appeared in international publications, and I work with editors, agencies, brands and organizations producing assignments in Costa Rica and abroad.
