A PHOTOGRAPHER SHAPED BY PEOPLE, PLACES AND STORIES.
I’m Christopher Alga, a documentary and editorial photographer based in Costa Rica, working with international clients and publications. My work is driven by a deep interest in people, place, culture and the relationships between them.
A LIFE IN THE FIELD
My story begins between Costa Rica and Colombia, two places whose cultures, landscapes and people shaped the way I learned to observe the world.
For more than 18 years, photography has taken me through rainforests, cities, coastlines, communities and international assignments. I am drawn to the human side of a place: the gesture, the landscape, the traces people leave behind and the quiet moments in between.
My approach is humanistic. I work with naturalness, simplicity and spontaneity, looking for images that feel observed rather than manufactured.

I studied photography at the Universidad Técnica Nacional de Costa Rica. In 2016, I completed the Magnum Photos + UAL Intensive Documentary Photography Course in London.
In 2023, I attended the VII Photo Masterclass in Arles, an experience that helped clarify the direction of my documentary practice.
My work has appeared in publications and platforms including The New York Times, The Times, HuffPost, Iberia Ronda, MyWed and Fearless Photographers.

BEYOND THE CAMERA
When I am not working, I am usually outdoors, exploring new places or supporting environmental and conservation initiatives. Those experiences continue to shape the way I see people, landscape and the relationship between them.
Photography, for me, is a way of understanding the world and my place in it.
An artist’s approach to weddings
Alongside my documentary and editorial practice, I founded Crissorama, my destination wedding photography and filmmaking studio.
Weddings bring together many of the things that interest me as a photographer: people, family, friendship, love and rituals. Through Crissorama, I apply the same observational approach to preserving those celebrations, combining documentary photography with editorial care and analog film.
