Portrait locations across Costa Rica

Location should support the subject, not compete with them. I work in San José offices and studios, hotels, homes, beaches, forests, farms and other working environments nationwide. Light, access, weather and intended use help determine the right setting.

Coasts and beaches

Pacific and Caribbean locations can work well for environmental portraits when the coast is relevant to the person or assignment. Timing is planned around light, tides, weather, travel and access.

Mountains and rural landscapes

Arenal, the Central Valley and rural regions can provide useful context for agricultural, conservation, tourism and profile assignments. Weather and visibility are considered before setting the schedule.

Cloud forest

Monteverde and other cloud forest locations offer soft light, dense vegetation and quickly changing conditions. Careful location choice keeps the landscape connected to the portrait without overwhelming the subject.

San José and urban settings

Offices, studios, streets and architecture in San José work well for executive and editorial portraits that need professional context. Locations can be selected for privacy, access and consistency across a larger team.

Plan a portrait assignment

Send the purpose of the portraits, number of people, preferred dates, location, intended use and required deliverables. If the visual direction or location is still open, I can help shape the assignment around the audience and where the photographs will appear.
