My Journey: A Humanistic Approach to Visual Storytelling
About Photographer Costa Rica. Humanistic photography is more than a profession, it’s a powerful way to convey the essence of our shared experiences, the intricate connections between people, their environment, and their cultural heritage. My journey as a photographer is a testament to this profound belief.
Over the past 15 years, I have dedicated myself to documenting the rich tapestry of human experience through editorial photography, video, and documentary work. My story begins between two vibrant Latin American countries, Costa Rica and Colombia, where the colors, cultures, and landscapes of my dual heritage shaped my perspective from childhood.
Since childhood, I have been a curious observer. The Alpízar roots of Costa Rica and the Gaviria legacy of Colombia weren’t just names, but a profound cultural inheritance that taught me to see the world through a lens of connection and emotion. My family, nature, people, and the moments I experienced in these two places ignited a great passion for telling stories.
In my work, I explore themes that go beyond mere visual documentation:
- Cultural identity
- Personal narratives
- The intricate relationship between humans and nature
For the past six years, I’ve focused intensely on humanist photography. My goal is to capture images with naturalness, simplicity, and spontaneity, reflecting everyday life as something truly exceptional. I pay attention not just to people, but to their vestiges: objects, places, and human creations that reveal deeper intentions.
I have the ability to translate complex ideas into simple, meaningful communication, bringing them to life through images. This skill has been crucial in developing a body of work with a deeply humanistic focus, forming the essence of my voice as a photographer and artist.
My approach is particularly focused on exploring:
- The relationship between human beings and nature
- Deep-rooted traditions in communities and families
- Agriculture as a commercial activity that tells a deeper human story
Today, my personal journey has evolved in beautiful, unexpected ways. I’m now a family man, married to a remarkable woman from Cataluña, Spain, who works as an environmental educator. Together, we’re raising our daughter, who represents the culmination of my life’s most profound storytelling, a living narrative of love, heritage, and hope.
While my background spans documentary, street photography, and editorial work, wedding photography has become a special calling. It allows me to capture genuine human connections in their most raw and beautiful form. These moments, nervous glances, shared promises, reunions of friends and family, are not fleeting. They echo through generations, etching themselves into our collective heritage.
“Photography is my language of love, my way of preserving the most precious moments of human connection.”
