Cartago is a high-elevation working environment where weather can change faster than the schedule. Around Los Quetzales and the Talamanca range, cold mornings, cloud, fog and steep roads shape the assignment before wildlife even appears. I have spent weeks here photographing quetzals and other highland species, where patience and local timing matter more than trying to force a sighting.
The cloud forest creates soft, low-contrast light when mist settles in, then changes quickly when the cloud lifts or rain moves through. For conservation, wildlife and agricultural assignments I plan for waterproofing, warm layers, slow road access and extra time. Cartago also works well for rural and agricultural stories because elevation, farming and forest sit close together, but the day needs enough flexibility for weather to decide part of the visual plan.
