Preventing Lens Fog in Humid Environments. One day, while on a personal project photographing wildlife in  Costa Rica, I stepped out of an air-conditioned lodge into the humid rainforest and immediately noticed my lenses fogging over. The condensation ruined my first few shots and made me realize how humidity could interfere with even the most carefully planned photography session.

As a Costa Rica photographer, I’ve learned to anticipate these conditions. I now keep my cameras in sealed bags with silica gel packs before moving outdoors, giving the lenses time to acclimate gradually to the high humidity. Additionally, I always carry a microfiber cloth to gently wipe any moisture before it becomes a problem.

My advice? Treat humidity as part of the environment you’re photographing, not just a nuisance. Based on my experience, small habits like slowly acclimating your equipment and planning for condensation can save hours of frustration. Doing photography in Costa Rica requires both patience and preparation, and learning how to protect your gear allows you to focus on capturing stunning images instead of worrying about fogged lenses.
