Photographer in Costa Rica
Christopher Alga
Capturing the simplicity of everyday life and the deep connections between people, nature, and the traditions that shape their communities.
I’ve trained with world-renowned photography agencies like VII PHOTO and MAGNUM PHOTOS, and I hold a degree in photography from Costa Rica.
Over the years, I’ve learned that life is an adventure, and every wedding adds a new, unique chapter to that story.
My photographic approach as a photographer in Costa Rica is distinguished by my ability to merge an acute geometric vision with an instantaneous intuition to capture fleeting moments of reality.
In my photographic practice, characterized by the use of discreet equipment, I commit to the full format and minimal post-processing intervention.
My artistic vision as a Costa Rica photographer is centered on the search for “truth” within the decisive moment, revealing the beauty and complexity of Costa Rican life—from its natural wonders to its cultural heritage, from agricultural traditions to modern industry—through a precise organization of forms and capturing the essence of events.

Photography Philosophy
Capturing the Decisive Moment in Costa Rica
My Photography Philosophy as a Costa Rica Photographer
As a photographer in Costa Rica, the essence of photography is capturing that fraction of a second where light, form, and action align to reveal the essence of an event. I believe photography is the simultaneous recognition, in a fraction of a second, of the significance of an event as well as the precise organization of forms that give that event its proper expression. Working as a Costa Rica photographer provides me with endless opportunities to witness these moments unfold.
Composition and Visual Storytelling in Costa Rica
I am known for my acute sense of composition. My eye must see a composition or an expression that life itself offers, and I must intuitively know when to click the camera. I explore the purely visual language that not only shows the three-dimensional world but also captures the depth of time (the moment). For me, photography is an immediate operation performed by the senses and the mind, translating the world into visual terms simultaneously and unceasingly. As a photographer in Costa Rica, I find this process particularly rewarding given the country’s visual diversity.
Artistic Vision and Photographic Thinking
I have a deep desire to move freely throughout Costa Rica to take my time and, implicitly, a desire to live in my era. My work as a Costa Rica photographer is influenced by my travels and my insatiable curiosity about “what is happening elsewhere.”
I don’t talk about techniques, style, social criticism, or poetics when referring to my photography. Instead, I focus on the image itself, the memory of the moment, the physical emotion of the instant, and my taste for sharpness. My camera technique allows me great discretion at the moment of shooting. I am like an analyst, looking for coincidence as a way to demonstrate that the roots of the image are in the unconscious.
The Practice of Photography in Costa Rica
For me, the camera is like a sketchbook, an instrument of intuition and spontaneity, the master of the instant, in visual terms, simultaneous questions and decisions, through economy of means that only reach the simplicity of expression. My ability to be invisible plays an important role in my work as a Costa Rica photographer, whether I’m documenting cultural traditions, agricultural practices, artisanal craftsmanship, or the natural environment.
Creative Vision and Creative Process
My creative vision is deeply linked to my curiosity about Costa Rica and its people. My experience with surrealism influences my ability to perceive the unexpected. I don’t look for allegories, but I am stimulated by reflections of the unusual, desolation, disenchantment, and poverty, revealing strangeness in everyday life. I am characterized by my insistence on “condensation,” meaning that as a photographer in Costa Rica, I must be completely present and ready to capture life “in the act of living.” I believe in the geometry of rhythm and the ability to recognize a “simultaneous coalition” of elements that make up a photograph.
On the other hand, my creative process involves great dedication and permanent preparation to capture the decisive moment. I am an attentive observer, moving discreetly and waiting for the instant when composition, light, and action converge. Through my lens as a Costa Rica photographer, I document not only landscapes and wildlife but also the cultural richness, agricultural traditions, industrial development, and artisanal craftsmanship that define this diverse country. My goal is to apprehend life in its entirety, always feeling like an apprentice in the process of development.

Editorial Photography
Thoughtfully crafted images that complement and enhance written narratives.
